On November 20, the first phase of the 60 MW project of Cambodia National Photovoltaic Park was completed and connected to the Cambodia National Grid. The project has reached the capacity of public projects in Southeast Asia. At the same time, the grid-connected project has also achieved a record. electricity price level ($0.039 per kWh).
The project was tendered in 2019 and development rights were awarded to Prime Road Alternative, a renewable energy project developer.
The completion of the Cambodian National Photovoltaic Park is a result of a partnership between the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Electricite du Cambodge (EDC), the national grid company of Cambodia. The successful completion of this project is sufficient proof that large-scale cost-effective photovoltaic projects can be developed in Cambodia by combining the public power sector and private enterprises.
The follow-up Phase II PV project with a capacity of 40MW was held in a bidding exercise in 2020, and the project was fully developed and developed in March 2022 at a record price of US$0.026 per kWh to the Chinese company Trina Solar (Trina Solar). ). After the completion of the second phase of construction, the total capacity of the two-phase project will reach its planned total capacity of 100MW.
Over the years, the ADB Asian Development Bank has contributed significantly to Cambodia's electrification and clean energy transition, helping Cambodia to increase household electricity consumption by nearly 90% between 2008 and 2021.
