The press release of the Union Party for Saving Romania ( USR ) stated on December 13 that the House of Representatives of Romania passed the proposal initiated by USR on the same day to reduce the value-added tax on photovoltaic panels, heat pumps and solar panels from 19% to 5%. It will come into force after promulgation.

The bill aims to promote new investments in the renewable energy sector, especially in small production capacity, and to increase energy efficiency for consumers. With the increase of new prosumers, they can not only produce energy for their own use, but also provide surplus production to the market. Previously, USR actively resisted the "sun tax" proposed by the Romanian government before December. Through the new tax reduction law, USR will continue to support energy production and investment.

Cristina Prună, USR representative and vice-president of the Industry and Services Council, said Europe was in the midst of its worst energy crisis in decades and needed new investments. Energy producers and consumers are developing rapidly. As of the end of September this year, the number of producers and consumers has reached 27,000, and more than 250 megawatts of production capacity have been successfully invested and installed. Reducing VAT to 5% on photovoltaic panels, heat pumps and solar panels will further accelerate the pace of investment in producing energy for own consumption while improving household energy efficiency. Only by vigorously promoting investment in renewable energy, Europe and Romania can survive this energy crisis.
