The project is based on a council-owned commercial development and is expected to be connected to a 2MW energy storage facility.

The solar panels will be installed on the City Council's office building facilities.

A city council on England's south coast plans to install 4.5MW of solar and 2MW of battery storage on commercial office buildings.

Portsmouth City Council plans to complete the project on its £138 million ($173 million) lakeside North Harbour development by the summer of 2023.

This week, an article published on the council's website said the city would install 9,900 solar panels on the roofs of five buildings and a car park described as "one of the largest solar car parks in the UK".

The site will also install 2MW rated batteries, which will store energy on-site and then provide grid service to utility National Grid. No energy storage capacity is provided to the battery.

The local government said the project, which will start this fall, will also include the construction of charging points for electric vehicles.
