The German Economic Weekly website reported on January 2 that the German Solar Energy Industry Association (BSW) reported that more than 1 million new photovoltaic power generation and heating systems will be installed in Germany in 2023, setting a historical record. Among them, about half of the newly installed equipment came from private households, 31% were open space systems, and 18% were commercial rooftop photovoltaic systems. Photovoltaic power generation equipment on household balconies has grown rapidly, with a total of 270,000 units installed throughout the year.
Data shows that Germany currently has about 3.7 million photovoltaic power generation systems installed, with an annual power generation of 62 billion kilowatt hours, accounting for about 12% of Germany's electricity consumption. In view of rising electricity prices and possible government subsidies, BSW predicts that demand for photovoltaic systems in Germany will continue to rise in 2024, with demand for new installations reaching 1.5 million units. This prediction is based on a recent survey by Yougov, a polling agency, which found that 69% of qualified owners intend to install rooftop photovoltaic systems, and 16% of owners have already planned to install them within the next year. At the same time, the commercial rooftop and open space photovoltaic markets will also continue to grow. In 2023, the German Federal Ministry of Transport provided a subsidy of 300 million euros for home photovoltaic charging and energy storage systems. However, due to the German government budget crisis, it is still unclear whether the relevant subsidies can be continued this year.
