The government of Kazakhstan recently announced that new energy projects with a total installed capacity of 10 GW will be built by 2035. At present, more than 140 renewable energy projects have been put into operation in Kazakhstan, with a total installed capacity of about 2,300 megawatts, accounting for 3.7% of the total power generation. In the next three years, the Kazakh government plans to add 48 renewable energy projects with a total installed capacity of 850 megawatts. According to the plan, by 2025, the proportion of renewable energy power generation in Kazakhstan is expected to increase to 6% of the total power generation.

Kazakhstan has elevated the development of renewable energy to a national strategy. As early as 2009, the government passed the Law on Supporting the Utilization of Renewable Energy, and in 2013, the development goals of the renewable energy industry were formulated. The Kazakh government has clearly stated in the "Concept of Green Economy Transformation" and the "Kazakhstan-2050" strategy that by 2050, the proportion of alternative energy and renewable energy power generation in the country's total power generation will be increased to 50%.

In recent years, driven by a series of policies, Kazakhstan's domestic renewable energy power generation has maintained a growth trend. Despite this, more than 80% of the country's electricity supply is still inseparable from fossil fuels. In order to alleviate the contradiction between energy demand and environmental protection, the Kazakh government continues to introduce measures to increase the use of modern technologies to collect and utilize carbon dioxide, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, modernize old energy infrastructure, and vigorously improve new energy. productivity, and achieved certain results.

The Kazakh government is also actively seeking international cooperation to accelerate the development of the new energy industry. Chinese enterprises have actively participated in the development of the renewable energy industry in Kazakhstan, and the cooperation between China and Kazakhstan in the field of renewable energy has yielded fruitful results. In June 2021, the largest wind power project in Central Asia, the Zanatas 100 MW wind power project jointly constructed by Kazakhstan and a Chinese company, was connected to the grid at full capacity; The Turgusong Hydropower Station in Kazakhstan, which was built by the company, has been put into operation for power generation; in July this year, the Selek wind power project jointly invested and developed by China Power Construction Corporation and Kazakhstan Samruk Energy Company achieved full capacity grid connection. Local people said that Kazakhstan and China have continuously strengthened cooperation in the new energy industry, which has greatly alleviated the problem of power shortages in some areas of Kazakhstan.

In addition to vigorously developing renewable energy, the Kazakh government will also promote the implementation of the "clean coal" plan and the construction of modern natural gas bases. Kazakhstan is rich in coal resources, and its industrial development started early and has a large scale. It has certain development advantages. The new "Clean Coal" initiative aims to minimise waste residues from coal use. The Kazakh government emphasized that the "clean coal" plan needs to be implemented with cross-department and cross-enterprise cooperation in order to study and find more efficient use methods.
