The International Energy Network learned on October 28 that the International Energy Agency will hold an international summit on the future of energy security hosted by the British government at Lancaster House in London from April 24 to 25, 2025. The summit will discuss traditional and emerging risks related to energy security in an era of geopolitical tensions, technological transformation and climate change.

The summit will explore the geopolitical, technological and economic factors that affect national and international energy security. It will provide leaders and decision makers around the world with an opportunity to review the trends that are redefining global energy security. These include changes in energy demand, supply and trade; the adoption of clean and efficient energy solutions; the availability of minerals and metals required for clean energy technologies - from wind turbines and solar panels to electric vehicles and battery storage; and investment allocation during the transition away from fossil fuels.

For 50 years, the International Energy Agency has been at the heart of international energy security - helping to avoid, mitigate and manage energy supply disruptions and crises. As the world changes, so do the challenges facing energy security. While oil and gas security risks show no signs of abating, new risks are emerging that could seriously hinder energy transformation and undermine the resilience of energy systems if not addressed promptly and effectively. This requires new and enhanced approaches to energy security that are appropriate for today and the decades to come, ensuring uninterrupted access to affordable energy.
