State-owned power company PT PLN (Persero) is operating Indonesia's largest floating photovoltaic (PLTS) project with a capacity of 561 KWP in the village of Tambak Lorok in the Indonesian city of Semarang in Central Java province. The project is operated by PT PLN Indonesia Power, a subsidiary of Indonesia's PLN. The floating wind power project is part of the 920-kWp floating wind power project, built at the site of the PGU gas and steam power generation project (Pltgu) , owned by Indonesia's PLN IP Power Company, in the Semarang region. Indonesia's PLN chairman, Darmawan Prasodjo, said the construction of the floating PV project showed that the country was committed to encouraging energy conversion projects to reduce the impact of climate change, and achieve 100% carbon neutrality (NZE) by 2060. To achieve 100% carbon neutrality, Indonesia's PLN has established initiatives such as no new contracts involving the construction of coal-fired power plants. Instead, Indonesia's PLN has started building power plants powered by new forms of renewable energy. PLN's plan is to switch from fossil-fuel-based to renewable-based power plants. Edwin Nugraha Putra, president of PLN Indonesia, said that the construction of the floating PV project was a solemn commitment to society by PLN IP and its subsidiary PT Indo Energi Hijau and would help speed up Indonesia's energy conversion process. PLN IP said the floating photovoltaic plant, which covers one hectare of water, would take eight months to build. In the first year of operation, the project will produce 1.4 million kilowatt-hours of environmentally friendly electricity per year, 304 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.” Edwin Nugraha Putra, president of PLN Indonesia, said the company was implementing a variety of energy conversion programmes that would integrate resources with support from all sectors of society, including business and government-backed financial institutions, to achieve full carbon neutrality.
