As the country with the earliest application of photovoltaics, Germany is expected to achieve 50% of its installed renewable energy capacity by the end of this year.

At a conference organized by the Heinrich Boell Foundation in Berlin on Monday, German Economy Minister Robert Habeck said that the proportion of renewable energy in Germany is expected to reach more than 50% this year.

At the same time, Habeck also mentioned the rapid growth of the German solar industry, which is expected to achieve 9GW of solar installed capacity this year.

In terms of power generation, Germany's renewable energy power generation has exceeded 50% in the first half of the year. Especially in May 2023, due to good lighting conditions, solar power generation continued to increase. 57% of Germany's electricity consumption in that month was provided by renewable energy.

Currently, solar power generation in Germany occupies an important position. The German government's goal is to have an installed capacity of 215GW by 2030. Therefore, Germany's solar capacity needs to nearly triple before 2030.

However, Habeck said that as power demand grows, renewable energy must account for 80% of the power mix by 2030, but at the current rate, Germany cannot achieve this goal. To this end, Germany needs to accelerate its transformation in the next few years.
