The EU will increase its PV grid-connection target by 2030 from 420 GW AC/525 GW DC under the FF55 programme to 600 GW AC/750 GW DC under the REPowerEU programme, an increase of 43%.
The EU has announced that it will expand the EU’s solar PV grid-connection target to 600 GW by 2030, guided by the REPowerEU scheme.
After 2029, rooftop solar will be mandatory for all residential buildings and all buildings to be solar-ready.
Announcing the establishment of the EU Solar Photovoltaic Industry Alliance as a coordinating body for all stakeholders in the solar manufacturing chain
To reduce Russia's reliance on fossil fuels, the European Union (EU), guided by its REPowerEU programme, plans to achieve a grid-connected target of more than 320 GW of AC solar PV by 2025, with further expansion to 600 GW by 2030 and 2027 Enough to replace 9 billion cubic meters of natural gas consumption per year.
By the end of 2020, the installed solar capacity in the EU region has reached 136 GW, accounting for about 5% of the total electricity generation in the EU. To achieve the targets set out in the EU solar strategy, the EU will need to install an average of around 45 GW of solar capacity per year.
The European Commission (EC) recently unveiled its high-profile REPowerEU Plan and raised its renewable energy target under the “Fit for 55 (FF55)” package from the previous 40% 45% by 2030.
In the Fit for 55 plan, the grid-connected capacity of photovoltaics in 2030 is 420 GW, or about 525 GW of installed capacity. In the current REPowerEU plan, the grid-connected target of photovoltaics has been increased to 600GW, or about 750 GW, an increase of 43%.
Recognizing the importance of rooftop photovoltaic power generation in the transformation of distributed energy, the committee decided to formulate a law to mandate that all new public and commercial buildings with a usable area greater than 250 square meters after 2026, as well as all new residential buildings after 2029, are equipped with photovoltaic systems . For existing public and commercial buildings with an area greater than 250 square meters and after 2027, the mandatory installation of photovoltaic systems is required.
Taking into account the call to shorten the permit application process related to renewable energy, under the REPowerEU plan, the EU will adjust the regulations to ensure that all buildings can be used for photovoltaic installations and limit the application process for rooftop photovoltaic installations to no more than 3 months.
