The Director of the International Energy Agency said that China has made outstanding achievements in the development of clean energy such as solar energy and wind energy and the electric vehicle industry, and "is the champion in the field of clean energy."

Fatih Birol, Director of the International Energy Agency, said at a themed side event held in the China corner of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) on December 4 that China's development in solar energy , wind energy and other clean energy and the development of the electric vehicle industry, "is a champion in the field of clean energy."

At this side event with the theme "Circular Economy Helps China's Practice of Carbon Reduction", Birol pointed out that all countries should see that China has made many remarkable achievements in the field of clean energy. In addition, China's important contribution is also reflected in lowering the market price of clean energy equipment, which is helpful to other countries in the world in developing clean energy.

According to the "2023 Annual Report on China's Policies and Actions to Address Climate Change" released by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China in October, by the end of 2022, the proportion of China's non-fossil energy consumption reached 17.5%, and the total installed capacity of renewable energy reached 1.213 billion kilowatts. As of the end of June this year, the number of new energy vehicles nationwide reached 16.2 million.

At the United Nations Climate Conference held in Dubai, the development of green and clean energy was a topic of common concern among representatives from various countries. The role of clean energy in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and combating climate change received widespread attention.

According to the "World Energy Outlook 2023" report released by the International Energy Agency at the end of October, by 2030, the world's energy system will undergo major changes, and the share of renewable energy in the global power structure will be close to 50%.

On the occasion of the release of the report, Birol called on governments, businesses and investors to support the clean energy transition, which can bring "new industrial opportunities and jobs, stronger energy security, cleaner air, a more inclusive energy supply and a safer climate."
