On December 14, local time, the groundbreaking ceremony of the Benban 1GW photovoltaic + 600MWh energy storage project, the largest integrated photovoltaic and storage power station in Egypt, which was constructed by China Energy Construction, and the grid-connected launch ceremony of the 500MW photovoltaic power station in Kang Ombo were held simultaneously. Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly attended and delivered a speech.
Madbouly congratulated the start of the project and thanked China Energy Construction for its outstanding contribution to Egypt's green and sustainable development. He said that the project is an important part of Egypt's implementation of the Clean Energy Action Plan and promotion of environmental and economic sustainable development. It is hoped that outstanding companies such as China Energy Construction will give full play to their own advantages, continue to increase investment and construction in Egypt, further improve the quality and efficiency of Egypt's power supply, and help Egypt accelerate the realization of the 2030 vision.
The Benban photovoltaic and storage hybrid power station in Egypt is an independent power station project invested and developed by AMEA Power. It is located in the Benban area in southern Egypt. It is the second phase expansion project of the completed Kang Ombo 500MW photovoltaic project, including the design, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning, and operation and maintenance of 1GW photovoltaic and supporting 600MWh energy storage, with a total amount of approximately US$600 million and a contract period of 17 months. The project will start construction as soon as it is signed. More than 7,000 jobs will be provided during the construction process. After completion, the annual power generation will be about 3,000GWh, meeting the electricity demand of 500,000 households, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 1.56 million tons, and further increasing the proportion of renewable energy and the stability of the power grid in Egypt. At the end of November this year, the consortium formed by China Energy Construction International Group, Zhejiang Thermal Power and Southwest Institute successfully signed the EPC general contracting contract for the project through public bidding.
Mahmoud Ismat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy of Egypt, Herah Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Rania Mashat, Minister of Investment and International Cooperation, Zhang Tao, Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, Zhao Liuqing, Minister Counselor, Hussein Noves, Chairman of the Board of Directors of AMEA Power, the head of China Energy Construction International Group, and relevant heads of financial institutions such as the World Bank IFC, Japan JICA, and the Dutch Enterprise Development Bank FMO attended the groundbreaking ceremony.
Egypt is an important overseas strategic market for China Energy Construction. China Energy Engineering will coordinate its superior resources, further enhance the performance team's capabilities, complete the project cooperation on time and with quality, and create a global green benchmark project. At the same time, it will give full play to its planning and design advantages, deepen talent training cooperation, widely participate in the investment and construction of photovoltaic, wind power, energy storage, hydrogen energy, gas turbine and other projects in Egypt, promote the adjustment of Egypt's power structure, play an active role in realizing Egypt's "Vision 2030", and promote the China-Egypt comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level.
