On April 24th, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said on Monday that it is supporting Albania in preparing to build a photovoltaic power station with a total capacity of 300 megawatts.

The EBRD said in a press release that this tender is part of a renewable energy auction program in Albania supported by the EBRD. In addition, the project will also receive funding from the Swiss Federal Department of Economic Affairs (SECO).

The website for selecting bidders will go live in June this year and will operate until October.

According to the notice issued by the Albanian government last week, bidders will be invited to submit a site selection plan for the design, financing, construction and operation of a photovoltaic power station with a capacity of 100MW. The winning bidder will be able to sign a 15-year agreement including a power purchase agreement (PPA) and contract for difference (CfD).

The Ministry of Infrastructure of Albania stated that this bidding activity will be the first of a total of three photovoltaic projects to be bid for. After the completion of the three projects, they will help Albania complete the photovoltaic installation with a capacity of 1GW.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) stated: “This initiative will help Albania achieve its goal of being carbon neutral, i.e. becoming a net exporter of renewable energy by 2030. As of now, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Supported and supported Albania's Ministry of Infrastructure to hold two photovoltaic project auctions with a total capacity of 240MW.

EBRD also stated that with the help of the financial support from the Swiss Federal Government's Economic Affairs Department (SECO), it cooperated with Switzerland to prepare the first wind auction for onshore wind power projects in Albania, with a capacity of 150MW. for the development of offshore wind power projects in Albania.

At present, Albania's main source of electricity is hydropower, accounting for more than 90% of the total, most of which come from three hydropower stations along the Drin River in the north of the country.
