Is your roof suitable for installing a photovoltaic power station?

The orientation of the roof

It is best to install the photovoltaic power station facing south, because we are in the northern hemisphere, when the power generation panel faces south, the power generation is the highest, and the solar radiation is also the best. Especially in summer, after noon is the time when the solar radiation is the strongest. When the direction is due south to west, the maximum power generation will be obtained; similarly, the maximum solar radiation direction in winter is slightly east. So, as long as your roof is within ±10° of the south, it won't have much effect on power generation.

shaded part

Not all south-facing roofs can be installed with PV modules, we have to take into account that the surrounding trees and other buildings will not block PV modules. Obstructions can cause a hot spot effect on solar panels, which not only affects the overall power generation, but can also cause fatal damage to the panels.

actual usable area

It is easy to judge the direction of the roof, but how to calculate the occlusion area of the obstacle? There is a simple algorithm. The width covered by the occluder can be approximated as follows: the height of the occluder × 2. Subtract this area from the total area of the roof where the modules are installed, and it is the actual usable area of the roof.

Why are there flat roofs and pitched roofs?

Generally speaking, sloping roofs (including colored steel plate roofs and tile roofs) do not need brackets. Instead, it is laid according to the current slope angle of the roof at the time of installation. Since there is no need to consider the occlusion between components, the components can be completely covered. Therefore, in the absence of roof appendages, the usage rate of pitched roofs will be higher than that of flat roofs. The flat roof is the need to design brackets.
